HAPEI expands Campus Peace Ambassador program to five additional universities

We are pleased to announce that the Campus Peace Ambassador Program is expanding to five additional Nigerian universities from the 2026/2027 academic session. The new cohort brings the total number of participating institutions to eighteen.

The five new universities are Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Port Harcourt, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, University of Jos, and Bayero University Kano. Each institution will host a cohort of fifteen student ambassadors trained in mediation, dialogue facilitation and community campaign design.

What changes for the 2026 cohort

Following feedback from the last three cohorts, we have restructured the program in three important ways. First, the training is now delivered in two intensive residentials rather than spread across eight weekends, in response to student requests to protect academic time. Second, every cohort now includes at least three student ambassadors from technical departments alongside those from the social sciences, reflecting where campus tensions actually surface. Third, ambassadors now receive a modest monthly stipend for the duration of the year, funded in part by our new partnership with the Ford Foundation.

Applications open in September
